Following on from the bands’ last Crawley show back in June, and with vocalist Anthony being in better health, Opportunist were ready to give off some noise and power. With Fathoms headlining, the boys in Opportunist certainly got the crowd ready and pumped for what was to come.
Starting the night off was Woking born, ‘Q’lil Glb Gells Thall’. A band that no-one was expecting. Bringing heavy guitar riffs, a non-functioning keyboard and a laptop to the stage, the guys certainly had extreme energy and hilarity. The obvious highlight of the set was the endless chicken nuggets they threw at the crowd. The promoter thought the night out well, having these guys start the night, because there was not one person who wasn’t laughing.
Coming to the stage following the previous band’s antics, Shreddertron definitely brought the sweat and POWER to the stage. The instrumental metal band from West Sussex gave the stage a shred it will never forget. The crowd went for it and really made it an enjoyable set, and everyone came away from it saying “POWER”, which seemed to be the band’s catchphrase.
Opportunist, the band that made my night. Opening their set with ‘The Depraved’, everyone in the venue knew the guys meant business, and if the heavy guitar riffs, blast beats and brutal screaming weren’t enough, the band later performed one of the big songs, ‘Chug Norris’. The song was being professionally recorded at the time, and it was a good thing as the crowd went nuts for this song. Opportunist really gave it 110% in this song, and their effort was conveyed by the amount of moshing by the crowd. Closing the set with ‘Vaccum’, the boys really gave the crowd a night they won’t forget in a while, especially one of their friends who momentarily took the microphone to scream for the band.
