After rising to fame with Bombay Bicycle Club, Lucy Rose has excelled herself as a singer-songwriter, releasing two albums that have peaked highly in the UK album charts and headlining nationwide tours, which is where we joined her tonight; In Norwich’s Waterfront venue, supported by Billie Marten and Jake Isaac.
Opening the evening of flawless performances was YouTube-bred Billie Marten. She entered the stage with a guitar in hand and quietly introduced herself on stage. The venue soon fell into silence, however, as she began her set with ‘Unaware’ and familiarised the crowd with her immaculate vocals. Her natural and pure vocals filled the room as she proved that, despite her young age, she had an incredible talent. Her set ebbed and flowed through a range of emotions that were transpired through her delicate vocals throughout. The only disappointment that came from her set was the crowd that, soon after she started, continued to chat loudly amongst themselves, not giving Marten the attention she deserved.

The second support act of the night was London-born singer-songwriter Jake Isaac. He brought about a whole new vibe to the evening, projecting a more upbeat sound with energy running through his performance as a whole. His sound is very distinctive; a mix of acoustic sounds with RnB tones in his vocals. He brought something new to not only the gig but to the music industry, which made his performance all the more interesting. A stand-out moment during his set was when he made his way into the centre of the venue, the crowd completely encompassed around him, and performed acoustically with no microphone or assistance. It truly was a great moment to witness, and the crowd’s appreciation for this resonated with the loudest cheers and applause of the evening thus far. It was clear that Isaac had gone down a storm with the crowd and was a brilliant support act for the tour as he was surrounded at the merchandise desk after, almost selling out of EPs and creating queues of people waiting for autographs and photos.

Of course, we were then joined on stage by the talented tour headliner, Lucy Rose, who elevated the crowd to further enjoyment. It’s no surprise that she was vocally flawless. She performs effortlessly and note-perfect, sounding the same as, if not better than, her studio-recorded albums. It’s no wonder that the venue was packed to see her. Being so down-to-earth in her performance also brought about a charming vibe to the evening, one which was carried throughout her set.
Rose opened her set with ‘Like an Arrow’, a popular choice with the crowd. The catchy song and immaculate vocals went down a storm with the fans, who responded to her performance with blaring cheers and a round of applause. She later went on to perform ‘Till the End’ and ‘Our Eyes’ to the packed-out venue, which was filled from front to back with those reaching up with their phones to record her effortless performance. Although the venue was packed, there was a really intimate feel to the gig, which was really heart-warming. The atmosphere could not have been better, with Lucy Rose smiling constantly throughout the whole show. Rose ended with an encore, which was met with really loud cheers and screams. She had gone down a storm with the crowd.
Overall, the show was fantastic. Great support acts, great headliner and a great atmosphere. The show was all about the music and couldn’t have been better. I would definitely recommend seeing Lucy Rose on tour and checking out her music, if not, you would be missing out!
