Having gained popularity and success via social media platform, Vine, Jack and Jack turned their talents to music, and joined us in Norwich’s Waterfront venue, this evening, for an energetic night of tears, screams and cheers.
Opening tonight’s show were pop/rock trio, Taken. The Irish band consisting of Stephen Barron, Eoghan Mac Mahon, and Richard Power charmed the young crowd, who were screaming and waving from the moment they entered the stage. Anybody would have thought Taken were headlining the tour with the crowd’s spirited reaction throughout their whole set.
Their performance was comprised of both originals and covers; songs that would get the crowd singing along and participating ready for Jack and Jack to take the stage. They performed covers of Years and Years ‘King’, and their own take on Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’, which had the crowd singing at the top of their voices and phone torches in the air.
Their music was upbeat and provided an impeccable opening for Jack and Jack. The band ended their set on an original, which had the entire crowd jumping in unison, together with the band. If their set wasn’t enough to go on that they are destined for big things in the future, then the crowd to meet them after their set and outside the venue was.
With the predominantly female crowd now elated, it was time for the headliners, Jack and Jack, to take to the stage. The room fell into darkness as the crowd, centred in front of the stage, pressed forwards, towards the barrier. Phones filled the space above fans heads as they reached up to capture their stage entrance on camera. The lights begun to illuminate the room, as both Jack and Jack entered the stage and the room burst into hysterical screams, which only went on to flourish throughout the evening. The two did not disappoint when it came to putting on a show. They held the crowds sole attention throughout their whole set; interacting, energising and making full use of the small, but wide stage. The chemistry between the two amidst performance could not be contended with, as they bounced off of each other’s energy, performing across the entire stage as one; something that made them all the more appealing – not to mention the American accents that seemed to make the fans weak at the knees.
Their set was comprised of original songs, such as ‘Tides’, ‘California’, and ‘Flights’ and included a distinctive cover of Calvin Harris’ ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ – not your typical cover song, however perfect for the duo and the atmosphere of the evening. This was perhaps one of the standout moments of their show. The two pursued a profound amount of energy as they played the drums to the melodic, instrumental chorus whilst the crowd sung along. They delivered a unique twist on the original; including a rap verse by Jack Johnson, and made it the song seem as if it was their own.
The group finished the evening performing ‘Wildlife’, which attained the loudest screams of the evening thus far, as confetti covered the densely compacted crowd. Jack and Jack later re-entered the stage, after chants for an encore, to perform their final song for the evening, ‘Like That’. The night drew to a close as Jack and Jack thanked the crowd and the room fell into darkness once again. On making their way to the exit fans could be seen leaving with tears rolling down their faces. Jack and Jack had won over the crowd and had proved to any doubters that they are more than just pretty faces.
If you haven’t already booked tickets be sure to get yourself down to Jack and Jack’s show in London on Tuesday 12th April, you will not be disappointed! But fear not, Norwich fans. Although being the smallest show of their tour, Jack and Jack indicated that there was ‘no doubt’ they would be back.
