Silver Tongue Bandoliers have just released their new EP ‘The Tales of Mr Funkyson’. Prior to the release we spoke with the band so that you can get to know them better! The band are as follows:
Kian Vaziri: Lead Singer/Frontman & Guitar
Dylan Wells: Bass & Vocals
Joel Blunden: Drums & Vocals
Beau Thompson: Guitar
What made you want to start a band?
Kian: I want to make people happy and just give people Beau. That’s all people really need. When we started the band in Milton Keynes, it was just the three of us until we found Beau somewhere in London. We’ve now adopted him, and he plays guitar for us. On a side note, we also wanted Lewis Hamilton to love our music, which he does. He’s actually our biggest fan. So yeah, more focus on giving people Beau now, I guess.
What drives you to be the best you can be?
Joel: Being the best is difficult. I’m already the best at sleeping, so I thought I’d turn my efforts towards being a pro musician. I love being a musician, and I love drumming, but love being in a band more. There’s nothing like writing, recording and performing music with your friends at the end of the day. Yeah, sometimes it gets tough, and sometimes it’s hard work, but I always remember why I do what I do when I sit behind the drumset on the stage.
What are you currently up to? Writing, recording, chilling etc?
Dylan: Kian and Beau are at BIMM (Brighton) studying, while Joel and I live in Milton Keynes. I run Mr Gig rehearsal and recording studio in MK, and I tell people Joel’s my “Drum Tech”. Saying that, I don’t remember the last time he came over and polished the drums for me. At least he makes a good cup of coffee. As a whole, we’re getting ready for the release of our new EP, The Tales Of Mr Funkyson. We’re busy promoting and networking within the industry so that we have a step to stand on in the future. Also, Beau has Bon Jovi on repeat all day, every day, because they’re his favourite band.
What bands did you listen to growing up?
Between all of us, we’d cover classic rock, funk, pop, world music, swing, 50’s and so on and so forth. It could possibly take until the end of time so we’ll chose an artist each.
Kian: Prince
Dylan: Oasis
Beau: John Frusciante
Joel: Elvis Presley
Who would you most like to work with in the future?
Beau: Well, Prince. He’s alive somewhere, somehow in some form. He’s definitely alive somewhere…probably with Elvis. If it was for just me personally though, John Frusciante would be my choice. He’s my biggest inspiration for my guitar playing and if I were to have anyone on repeat all day everyday, I’d pick him. Not Bon Jovi. Thanks Dylan.
Of all the songs in the world, what best describes each of your personalities?
Beau: My Guitar Lies Bleeding In My Arms (Bon Jovi)
Dylan: I Feel Like Dancin’ (Beegees)
Kian: Conrad Tokyo (A Tribe Called Quest)
Joel: Wake me up when September Ends (Green Day)….But don’t wake me up, I like to sleep.
Where do you aim to be in the next few years?
We want to be playing week in and week out and earning a living from it. We want to be at mainstream festivals and hopefully receiving national radio play. We, of course, want to grow our fan base and release more music for people to hear also!
Finally, your music is for fans of…
Prince, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queen….Spice Girls (just kidding).
